Korean food company SPC Group said Tuesday that its affiliate SPC Samlip has acquired the exclusive contract for operations in Korea of Eggslut, a popular egg sandwich franchise in California, as well as the license for Singapore.
The company said it will introduce the first Eggslut store in Korea at Coex Mall in Seoul in June.
US brand Eggslut is famous for its egg sandwiches made with a warm brioche bun, scrambled eggs and sriracha mayo sauce.
“We are pleased to show Korean guests the special taste of Eggslut, which means someone who loves eggs,” said Jeff Vales, co-founder of Eggslut.
“SPC Samlip has the standout production and supply chain of eggs, meat processing, vegetables, sauces, etc. based on baking technology. Therefore SPC Samlip is the best partner to maintain the high quality of the Eggslut menus.”
SPC, which also has launched US burger chain Shake Shack in Korea, said it will expand the “fine-casual” dining market via Eggslut.
“We will continue to pioneer new businesses to gain growth power to rise as a general food company,” an SPC official said.
Eggslut is a sandwich brand that started in 2011 with a food truck in Los Angeles, run by star chef Alvin Cailan and former graphic artist Jeff Vales. The first store opened at the Grand Central Market in Downtown LA in 2013, and the chain currently operates eight stores in four countries -- five in the US and one each in Kuwait, the United Kingdom and Japan.
